To undertake the 750-hour Practical Evaluation Internship (TPV), which is a prerequisite for qualifying to practice as a Psychologist (Register A), it is necessary to submit an application to one of the affiliated locations to receive confirmation of their availability to host the internship at the chosen location. Requests from newly affiliated structures must be submitted well in advance of the internship start date (at least 7 months prior). In such cases, the intern should consider other structures already on the list of affiliated locations in case the affiliation is not successful. To find out whether the affiliation request has been accepted or rejected by the Integrated University-Order Commission, the intern must contact the hosting entity/organization directly. The internship office will communicate directly with the entity/company.
Applicants must have obtained a non-qualifying Master's degree in Psychology (LM-51) from the University of Florence. Graduates from other Italian universities cannot be accepted, as per the resolution of the Psychology School Council on 3/4/2019. Graduating students can apply (conditionally) provided they obtain their degree before the internship starts.
Those with a specialist degree in class 58/S or a degree obtained under previous regulations (pre-DM 509/99, 5 years) equivalent to degree classes under D.I. July 9, 2009, and subsequent amendments must complete a post-graduation internship of one year divided into two consecutive semesters. For further information, consult the page "Apply for a post-graduation internship of one year."
New Practical Evaluation Internship (TPV) Regulation, preliminary to the qualification for practicing as a Psychologist (in implementation of Law 163/2021 and subsequent implementing decrees no. 554 of 6/06/2022, no. 567 of 20/06/2022, and no. 654 of 5/07/2022): Regulation of 16/01/2023
The minimum required is 750 hours, to be completed within a maximum of 12 months.
The schedule must be fewer than 8 hours daily and fewer than 40 hours weekly. For a productive training experience, it is recommended not to exceed 6 hours per day and 30 hours per week, in compliance with the current regulations. In any case, weekly hours cannot exceed the availability of the supervising psychologist as declared during the affiliation process.
Except in cases mentioned in Article 10 of the Regulation, the TPV cannot be suspended, and if carried out in two structures, the periods must be consecutive.
For eligibility, the full 750 hours must be completed, even in case of suspension; therefore, it is not possible to complete fewer hours.
The internship can be completed at one location (750 hours) or at two different locations (375 hours each). In the second case, the periods must be consecutive, and the activities must differ. Two training projects must be submitted, one for each structure.
For those who choose to do the internship in two different structures, with two consecutive 375-hour periods, one application must be submitted for both periods, indicating the names of the two structures that agreed to host the intern, and including documentation for both periods (projects, etc.).
Remote internships (distance learning) are not allowed, except for residual activities appropriately agreed upon in the project and approved by the internship committee.
It is not possible to carry out the TPV internship at Italian or foreign university structures and laboratories, according to the ministerial decree no. 567 of June 20, 2022.
Each supervising psychologist can accept a maximum of 5 interns at the same time (only for practical evaluation internships or TPVs), regardless of the universities of origin of the interns and the number of locations they operate in.
If choosing an internship in two different structures, the hours to be completed in each structure must be in two consecutive periods of 375 hours each, for a total of 750 hours. Any holidays, absences, or illnesses must be recovered. The TPV must start on one of the four periods listed above: March 15, June 15, September 15, or December 15.
It cannot start on other dates.
If opting for the TPV in two periods, it must begin in one of the four dates or windows above. The second period must start consecutively with the first period’s end; thus, the start date of the second period is not tied to the above windows (see examples below).
For the weekly schedule, the intern must agree with the structure and the supervising psychologist, who have availability constraints agreed with the structure and the Psychology School in the affiliation contract (Appendix B of the request). The intern cannot exceed the weekly availability of the supervising psychologist as declared during affiliation. For further clarification, refer to the "Documents to submit" section below in point 2) Training project.
EXAMPLES: The following hypotheses are only indicative examples.
In the training project, it is advised to calculate the "start" and "end" dates for each period, making a precise and realistic program with a calendar, considering holidays, the structure’s holidays, personal holidays, and any other planned absences.
Hypothesis: Two structures in two consecutive periods (375+375):
1st structure 375 hours from 15/09/2023 to 31/01/2024: 375 hours (about 20 hours per week) 2nd structure 375 hours from 01/02/2024 to 30/06/2024: 375 hours (about 20 hours per week)
Hypothesis: Two structures in two consecutive periods (375+375):
1st structure 375 hours from 15/06/2023 to 21/12/2023: 375 hours (about 16 hours per week) 2nd structure 375 hours from 22/12/2023 to 05/05/2024: 375 hours (about 20 hours per week)
Hypothesis: One structure in one period (750 hours):
About 30 hours per week: from 15/06/2023 to 22/12/2023 About 20 hours per week: from 15/06/2023 to 25/03/2024 About 15 hours per week: from 15/06/2023 to 14/06/2024
Note: The internship period cannot exceed 12 months (as per ministerial regulation).
Once the availability from the affiliated site has been confirmed, the following documents should be prepared and uploaded in the form within one of the indicated submission windows.
PHASES AND TIMES FOR THE ACTIVITIES (page 2 of the Project): this section must specify the weekly working hours, with a precise breakdown, indicating exactly the total weekly hours and the start/end time for each day, all agreed with the facility and the supervising psychologist, in compliance with the daily and weekly limits established by the School of Psychology Regulation (01/16/2023) (no more than 7:30 hours per day and 37:30 hours per week), and in respect of the total hours available from the supervising psychologist declared during the agreement phase with the School of Psychology (attachment 2b of the request).
END DATE OF INTERNSHIP: It is therefore recommended to carefully calculate, with a calendar in hand, the "end" date of the internship, in line with the TPV period indicated in the PROJECT SUMMARY (number of weeks and weekly hours, considering the total hours of TPV to be completed), taking into account any already planned breaks (e.g., facility closure, personal or tutor holidays). A TPV hours simulation file can be found above to help with this.
The signed application, along with the attachments listed above, must be scanned and uploaded in the FORM within one of the indicated submission windows.
Submission deadlines for completing the FORM with document upload
Internship starting on March 15, 2025: application from January 10 to February 10, 2025
Internship starting on June 15, 2025: application from April 10 to May 10, 2025
Internship starting on October 15, 2025: application from June 10 to July 20, 2025
Internship starting on December 15, 2024: application from October 10 to November 10, 2024
Deadlines must be respected even by graduates who are submitting with reservation of obtaining the degree (by attaching the substitute declaration of notoriety, see point 7).
After the deadline for uploading the documents in the FORM, the internal internship commission will evaluate the uploaded documentation and send each intern an email (from tirocini@psico.unifi.it), no earlier than 10-15 days before the internship begins, to inform whether the documentation has been approved or if additional information, corrections, or clarifications are needed.
The intern can forward the email received from the Internship Office to the Host Facility and the Supervising Psychologist to confirm that they can start the internship. Note that the Internship Office will not send any emails to the facilities or supervising psychologists.
Only after receiving the email from tirocini@psico.unifi.it confirming that the application has been approved, the intern must send the original documents via registered mail with return receipt (RR) to the following address: Scuola di Psicologia - Ufficio Tirocini - Via della Torretta 16 - 50137 Florence.
Alternatively, it is possible to deliver the documents by hand at the Internship Office (School of Psychology) at Via della Torretta 16, by booking a slot via the Google Calendar link.
The originals can be submitted after the internship has started (typically within a month).
For any DELEGATION to a representative, write a letter including:
List of original documents to be sent or delivered (with handwritten signatures on paper, not photocopied signatures):
Incomplete documents will not be accepted.
At the beginning of the internship, the Diary Book must be downloaded online to record daily attendance and the activities carried out. At the end of each period, the Diary Book must be completed with original stamps and full handwritten signatures (not scanned or photocopied) and the Evaluation by the Supervising Psychologist (with suitability for the TPV). Daily activities can be recorded on the computer. The Diary Book must be submitted only at the end of the entire 750-hour internship as indicated on the webpage.
Before submitting the Diary Book, make a photocopy of the Book and the Tutor's Evaluation, as they may be required for the Practical Assessment Test (PPV) application or be useful later.
Due to Law 183/2011, art. 15 (decertification), internship completion certificates cannot be issued as no certificates are issued between public administrations. Therefore, the intern must self-certify the completion of the internship according to the procedure outlined in the University's call for applications. It will be the responsibility of the University to verify the self-certification through internal communications with the Internship Office of the School of Psychology.
