Professional Internship Activities (TPV) for the Bachelor's Degree in Psychology

What is TPV?

TPV stands for "Tirocinio Pratico Valutativo," or the evaluative practical internship. It is the professionalizing internship that psychology students are required to complete following the introduction of the qualifying bachelor's degree. These practical activities are designed to deepen the students' skills in both "know-how" and "being" as a psychologist, which are integral parts of the university curriculum. These activities will count toward the acquisition of TPV credits (CFU) required for the qualification as a psychologist for graduates in LM-51, in accordance with Article 1, Paragraph 3, of Law No. 163 of November 8, 2021.

How TPV Credits Are Organized in the Degree Program

The Bachelor's Degree Program includes a total of 10 CFU in TPV, organized as follows:

1st Year (starting from academic year 2023/2024): 4 CFU, structured as practical sessions expanding on material covered in the following courses:

  • Fundamentals of Anatomical-Physiological Processes in Mental Functioning
  • General Psychology
  • Psychometrics
  • Social Psychology

2nd Year (starting from academic year 2024/2025): 4 CFU, structured as practical sessions expanding on material covered in the following courses:

  • Educational Psychology
  • Work Psychology
  • Elements of Psychopathology
  • Dynamic Psychology

3rd Year (starting from academic year 2025/2026): 2 CFU, organized as follows:

  • 1 CFU in Ethics
  • 1 CFU in Guidance for Psychological Activities in Different Contexts

For each TPV credit, 25 hours of activity are required: 12 hours of in-class sessions and 13 hours of individual study and reflection. The 12 in-class hours are divided as follows:

  • 2 hours of introduction for all groups
  • 8 hours of small group activities
  • 2 hours for presentation/review of the activities carried out

Due to the structure of small groups and the large number of students, it is mandatory to adhere to the scheduled time slots based on one's alphabetical group (see below). Changing groups will not be permitted.

Attendance Requirements for TPV

Attendance for each TPV activity is mandatory for at least 75% of the in-class hours. The tutor will take attendance and verify the fulfillment of the attendance requirement. If a student fails to meet the attendance requirement for a specific TPV, they will need to retake the entire activity in the following academic year.

Evaluation of TPV

The evaluation of TPV is based on an individual suitability judgment from the tutor. This suitability will typically be assigned at the end of the 2-hour review/presentation session. A subsequent exam session will be scheduled, and students must register for this session in order to record their suitability. Students who are unable to attend this final session for valid reasons may, with prior agreement from the tutor, reschedule the review and register for the evaluation in the following month (the date will be published on the exam notice board). In such cases, the student must provide a certificate or signed statement justifying their absence. If the student fails to complete the activity and register for the evaluation within this extended period, they will need to repeat the entire TPV activity the following academic year.

TPV Delivery Period and Organization

Each TPV is offered only once during the academic year. Of the 4 TPVs scheduled for the first year and 4 for the second year, 2 will be held during the first semester, and 2 during the second semester. The TPV sessions for the first semester will take place in November-December, while those for the second semester will take place in May-June.
