Learning Objectives
The course aims to promote:
- The knowledge of the areas of investigation of environmental psychology, of its theoretical and methodological approaches and of its application areas;
- The understanding of main psychological issues and problems related to the philosophies and policies for the management of environmental resources in the contemporary globalized world;
- Critical reflection on issues and problems related to environmental quality, and awareness of their relevance;
- Competence in the application of methodologies for the detection and management of ecological and environmental issues from a complex psychological-social perspective;
- The ability to deepen the subject autonomously and to transmit useful knowledge, to propose effective initiatives and to prospect hypotheses of psychological and social interventions aimed both at promoting responsible pro-environmental behaviors, and at primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of (individual and collective) harmful habits and attitudes, to the physical, social, cultural and ecological environment.

The relationship between humans and environment (real and virtual) from a complex psychological point of view: cognitive, emotional, affective, symbolic, relational, identitarian, evaluative, normative, behavioral aspects.
Theoretical and methodological approaches and main application areas of environmental psychology. Psychological and social issues and problems related to environmental crisis and resource management philosophies and policies in the contemporary globalized world.
Perception, awareness and implications of environmental quality.
The architectural psychology and its applications (reading and design of landscapes, and of residential, work, education, prisons, care, worship, recreation, exposure places).
Personal space, territoriality and population increase.
Environmental stress and restorativeness. Affordances, architectural barriers and prosthetic environments.
The primary, secondary and tertiary habits and attitudes, individual and collective, harmful to the environment on the physical, social, cultural and ecological level. The promotion of healthy and pro-environmental behaviors.
