The program of Psychology of Disability in Development aims to provide the student with knowledge about the current studies on the psychology of children and adolescents with disabilities, understanding their everyday life and making hypothesis about the rehabilitation.
Topics covered will include: definition of impairment, disability and handicap according to the Oms. Psychological aspects related to the various sensory, motor and mental disabilities. Main problems related to the disability, rehabilitation and integration. Function of the various components of the personality, either in typical development and atypical. Integrated approach to disability. Well-being of persons with disabilities and their families. School integration and project life. Rehabilitatation.
These topics will be covered with particular attention to the practical aspects relating to the assessment and intervention habilitation and rehabilitation.
- Applying knowledge and understanding
▶ The course will provide students with the skills to identify the core features of the psychological problems of different disabilities in the various stages of life. Being aware of the needs of people with disabilities, the need to integrate the actions, the difficult relationship between expectations / realization / realistic budgets.
▶ These skills will be acquired through the presentation of the main instruments of assessment and intervention for people with disabilities.
- Making Judgements
▶ Particular emphasis will be given to understand the importance of implementing evidence-based treatments.
▶ This topic will be discussed considering some recent contributions of psychological research.
- Communication skills
▶ The course will provide students with the necessary knowledge to conduct interviews with people with disabilities, their families and other figures that revolve around children and adolescents with disabilities.
- Learning skills
▶The course will provide students with the learning methodology: theoretical knowledge based on the recent literature, knowledge of evidence based instruments, simulation and application.
