This course will examine the most recent scientific literature on perceptual processes and our understanding of the underlying neural mechanisms. The course is divided into four modules: 1) Techniques to study perceptual processes. 2) Recent research on visual perception 3) The “mirror neuron system” 4) Crossmodal combination of information from different sensory modalities. The course will be adopt a strictly empirical approach and include practical laboratory experience.
The main goal of the course is to make students aware of state of the art studies about visual and auditory perception as well as the combination of this information with the sensorimotor system. At the end of the course students will be able to have the means to set up independent investigations on the research fields taken into account.
