Knowledge and understanding
The program of "Psychology of guidance and career counseling" aims to offer the student theoretical, methodological and applied knowledge in guidance psychology and career counseling to address issues related to the design and implementation of interventions in this area.
The course will include the following topics: origin, development, differentiation and evolution within international contexts and Italian reality of traditional psychology of guidance and career counseling; reference theoretical principles for intervention; the current career construction theory, the Self-construction theory and the life construction theory; the vocational psychology in the working perspective and the relational theory of working; guidance psychology and career counseling within different contexts (school, professional and work contexts). Narrative current methodologies for intervention in guidance and career counseling psychology. APA guidelines on prevention, guidance and career counseling.
These topics will be addressed with particular attention to aspects of methodology in guidance and career counseling in order to facilitate learning skills and expertise for differentiated interventions.
Applying knowledge and understandings
The course will provide students with the indications necessary to seek current sources and materials with which to compare; design guidance and career counseling interventions appropriate to the request, recipients and contexts of application. Such knowledge and understanding capacities will be exerted through the learning of different tools and methods of intervention.
Recognition of differentiated interventions with use of different techniques.
Making judgements
Particular emphasis will be given to the identification of the strengths and critical areas of different interventions in guidance and career counseling field in relation to different contexts of application based on the results of the discipline research.
This autonomy will be favoured also through practical exercises on methods and tools in the field of guidance and career counseling.
Communication skills
The course will provide students with the knowledge and stimuli necessary to present, discuss and apply theories, models, interventions and tools in the guidance psychology and career counseling. It will also provide an opportunity for students to test themselves on these topics in specially created simulation contexts.
Learning skills
The themes and methods used in the course " Psychology of guidance and career counseling " are aimed at promoting learning skills and also self-learning and self-updating capacity in relation to the discipline, experimenting aspects of complexity linked to interventions and to different modalities in reference to different targets.

- Autonomous bibliographic research, retrieval of international research and intervention articles in guidance psychology and career counseling, comparative evaluation of materials with corresponding arguments. Application of different tools and methods for intervention in guidance and career counseling.
Communication skills
- Preparation of group work to be presented in differentiated communicative situations.
- Simulations of tools and methods related to the guidance and career counseling.
Learning skills
- Facilitation of autonomy in research and selection of materials, in structuring of questions for learning regarding guidance interventions and career counseling and in problem solving related to the research of appropriate answers.
