Learning Objectives
Knowledge and understanding
To understand the fundamental knowledge of theories and models in psychotherapy. Understanding the diverse and conflicting positions on the theory and practice of various psychotherapies. Recognize the specificity that allow the therapist to indicate a treatment instead of another.
Applying knowledge and understanding
The course will aim to develop the following competencies and knowledge: to understand the various forms of intervention, to learn technical and scientific terms, to explore the various possibilities for interaction between pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment, to understand the importance of research on the effectiveness of different treatments
Making judgements
Emphasis will be given on: the variety of different psychotherapeutic approaches, the existence of different treatments and, as a consequence, the need of evaluate in each single case the best scientific evidence about the efficacy of these treatments.
Communication skills
Upon completion of this course students should be able to understand the taxonomy of therapeutic interventions without negletting the efficacy and effectiveness
Learning skills
The course must make the students able to integrate the newly acquired knowledge with those already in their possession and with those obtained by other courses, with the aim of creating useful links and connections.
General aims
To acquire basic knowledge on the different theoretical models, techniques and applications in order to know how to steer between the different therapeutic indications

Good knowledge of psychopathology and research methods

Lectures.
Applying knowledge and understanding
During the lessons, exercises and examples will be conducted on real or simulated clinical cases in order to illustrate the way in which the acquired theoretical knowledge can be put into practice.
Making judgements
During the course, a critical approach will be used in relation to analyzed theories and concepts, so as to accustom students to the discussion of the concepts and the theories that has been proposed in the clinical and scientific field.
Communication skills
During the lessons will be used a language that can allow students to learn the important technical terms of the discipline, and that it can provide useful examples of communication methods to be used in a diversified manner with colleagues and patients.

Type of Assessment
Knowledge and understanding
Written examination Multiple Choice and Open Questions. On average, the items in the exam have a difficulty index of between .25 and .75
Applying knowledge and understanding
During the course, exercises will be provided on real and simulated clinical cases, so that students will have the opportunities of verify their progressive learning.
Making judgements
During the written examination, critical judgements will be requested about the concept exposed in the text and in the didactic material provided during the course
Communication skills
During the written examination, the technical correctness of used language and also the conceptual clearness in the description of concept and theories will be evaluated.
Learning skills
At the time of written examination the ability to develop link and connections between concepts and theories will be evaluated; this ability will be evaluated also in relation to previous courses
